Piercing Aftercare

Proper aftercare of your piercing is essential to ensure it heals properly. Here are some tips to care for your piercing:

First wash your hands thoroughly before cleaning or touching your piercing for any reason.

We recommend sterile saline wound wash (Neilmed fine mist is our fav!) sprayed directly on both sides of the piercing 2 to 3 times a day for at least the first couple months, if not the entire healing time. This is the only solution we recommend besides clean, warm running water. Make sure to gently pat dry when you are done rinsing your new piercing. We do not recommend leaving your piercing wet. After a hot shower, you can saturate a Q-tip with your saline and gently remove any debris from your piercing/Jewelry. Make sure to do this gently so as not to irritate it. When patting your new piercing dry, please make sure to use a clean paper towel or non-woven gauze. We do not recommend towels/ washcloths as they can snag and harbor bacteria.

We recommend letting the water run on your piercings while in the shower. This will help soften any debris and allow it to fall off naturally.

Although we do Not recommend sleeping on your new piercings, you should change your pillowcases often or you can also use a clean T-shirt to cover the pillows to keep your piercing clean. An easy trick to help you sleep with fresh ear piercings is to use a travel neck pillow and simply put your ear in the center so there’s no pressure on your fresh piercing!

For most piercings, it is highly encouraged to come back for a check-up/downsize appointment. This is needed for most piercings in about 4 to 6 weeks unless we tell you otherwise. This is to make sure that you are healing great and to see if you need a shorter post to continue healing wonderfully and reduce the chances of snagging or migration.

Do not use alcohol, peroxide, tea tree oil, ointments of any kind, or soap to clean your piercings, and we do not suggest making your own sea salt water mixtures. A lot of these can hinder or slow down the healing process.

Do not touch, twist, rotate, or play with your piercing during its healing. This can get debris trapped in the piercing channel and cause irritation or cause damage to healing tissue. This also means not to take your jewelry out of the piercing during healing. Not only can these things cause bacteria to get into the wound and cause irritation or infection, but if your jewelry is not in your piercing, it can shrink quickly or completely close up. Even after your piercing is fully healed, we don’t recommend leaving your jewelry out for any extended period of time.

Do not recommend sleeping on a healing piercing. Any prolonged pressure can cause irritation and can change the angle of your piercing/shift or migrate. This can be irreversible. This can also make a piercing take much longer to heal and potentially cause it to become painful.
